Stop Snoring Advice - How to Prevent Snoring?

You seriously looking for snoring stop? Then you should become an astronaut.

Astronauts rarely snore when in space because in zero-G the throat muscles are less prone to collapsing! Jokes apart, unfortunately there is no single snoring remedy. Just as there are numerous causes of snoring there are numerous different treatments.

Below listed are some of the commonly followed techniques to stop snoring, consult a physician before trying any of them.

Treatment of Nasal Congestion or Sinusitis

If your sinusitis is causing your airway to choke up, then treating this root cause of snoring is a smart way to treat your snoring issue. Speak to your doctor about the treatment methods available. At times, steroid sprays are effective in clearing nasal congestion.

Oral Appliances to Stop Snoring

These are plastic devices that are fitted into the mouth, and are similar to mouth guards. The main purpose is to keep the tongue and throat tissues from collapsing. This keeps the airway always free during your sleep and stop snoring. These devices can be used alone, or used in combination with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP).

Corrective Surgery to Stop Snoring

Corrective surgery is supposedly the final resort when considering all stop snoring solutions. You may have a deviated septum and require surgery to correct it.

For those of you with excessive palate and throat tissues, the surgeon may perform uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) a surgical procedure to remove them.

Thermal Ablation Palatoplasty (TAP) refers to surgical procedures performed to treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Examples of procedures in this category are Laser-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP), Cautery-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (CAUP) and Radio Frequency Ablation (somnoplasty).

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

Surgeries naturally carry risks. If you wish to avoid them, you may use CPAP as a stop snoring solution. Using CPAP, the patient has to wear a pressurized mask over the nose while sleeping. What this approach does is it continuously pumps air through your airway, and artificially keep your airway clear. This method is one of the safest stop snoring solutions but some folks simply hate it because of the inconvenience and discomfort.

At the most extreme, surgery is available that will stop snoring in many cases. One such procedure is the Pillar Palatal Implant System. This should usually be seen as a remedy of last resort unless recommended by your doctor.
